Eye Trackers

Eye Trackers are necessary tool to record Eye Gaze and Fixation for driver/pilot training and evaluation, Neuro-Behavioral studies, attention studies, Human Factors Research, Hand-Eye coordination for Sports and Combat Training, Retail effectiveness and many other applications.

Why monitor Eye Movements? Real-time knowledge of the precise position of the eye and the pupil diameter is invaluable for a host of diagnostic and interactive applications. Neurologists, ophthalmologists, psychologists, and brain researchers use eye data to test for cognition and oculomotor characteristics and abnormalities. Monitoring where a subject is looking allows creators of consoles, cockpits, advertisements, and packaging to optimize their designs or train users more efficiently. As a control input, eye movements can be used to direct a weapon, a cursor, or a high resolution simulator inset to maximize overall system speed and utility.

ISCAN's Video Based Eye Tracking: All of ISCAN's eye tracking systems automatically recognize and track the position of eye landmarks present within an image of a human or lower animal's eye. The eye, illuminated by a low-level infrared (IR) light, is scanned by an IR sensitive video camera. Under normal conditions, the pupil of the eye appears as a dark hole, or sink, to the illumination. This "dark pupil" image is input to a real-time eye tracking system consisting of a digital image processor that outputs pupil size and position coordinates relative to the scan of the camera. The eye image processor uses a custom integrated circuit chip set designed by ISCAN to acquire and track the "dark pupil" position even in the presence of shadows, eyelashes, or other clutter normally found in images of the eye. Crosshairs automatically center themselves over real-time video images of the eye indicating that accurate positions are computed. ISCAN's "dark pupil" tracking technique allows the system to reliably track eye position with virtually any subject. Eyeglasses or contact lenses do not normally interfere with system operation and the pupil is tracked over the full range of ambient illumination, from darkness to full sunlight.
